Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV)
Battery-powered vehicles for travelling on the Moon's surface taken with the last three Apollo programme missions (15, 16 and 17). They were introduced because the objectives of the previous missions, especially as they became more ambitious, had been hampered by the astronauts' lack of mobility. The journeys made by the astronauts of Apollos 15, 16 and 17 were 28, 27 and 35 kilometres (17.5, 16.5 and 22 miles), respectively.
